about proof
proof, aka Marky Enriquez was born and raised in the safe and sunny
streets of San Mateo , California. He grew up listening to
everything from Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Bangles, Air Supply,
Twisted Sister, Lionel Richie, Journey, and even Falco, but his
life changed when he first saw the video for "Rockit"
by the legendary Herbie Hancock. proof traded in his Twisted
Sister shirt for some shell toes sneakers, began collecting Hip-Hop
records and took every opportunity to get busy on his parents' belt
driven turntable. It wasn't until the early 90's that he got
his own set of turntables and got into the mobile dj scene that
was blowing up in San Francisco . After graduating from St.
Ignatius High School in San Francisco in ‘94, proof went on to Cal
Poly San Luis Obispo in the Central Coast .
There, proof was introduced to funk by a friend who was playing
a "Give it up, Turn it loose" record by James Brown, and
instantly fell in love with the raw form of music. From then
on, proof began collecting funk records in search of that “perfect
beat.” This love for funk eventually led to hosting the WEFUNK SHOW
on 91.3FM KCPR, a college radio show dedicated to classic soul,
funk, and original breaks. After graduating from Cal Poly
in 2000, proof continued his dedication to funk music by hooking
up with some friends to throw a weekly joint called Soul in the
Hole at the Claran Lounge in Santa Clara . Soul in the Hole
attracted b-boys, b-girls, hip-hop heads, and music lovers from
all over the Bay Area in search for a positive space to dance to
deep funk and original breaks.
In 2001, proof hooked up with some old college friends who were
just starting Massive Selector. proof did a guest spot one
night for MS at the infamous Rawhide night club in San Francisco,
and he's been spinning with the crew ever since. Today, proof is
busy organizing and promoting events for Massive Selector as well
as playing at various spots in the City. On the decks, his musical
tastes range from hip-hop, rock, funk, soul, disco, broken beat,
latin, house, dub, 80's and everything under the sun. Making
mixes for his friends, bringing people together, and spreading love
through music is what he enjoys most about DJing. |
